In one huge, airy, atmospheric setting, Sri Lankan, international fusion and old-school favourites come together on eclectic, mouthwatering menus - to take your taste buds on a journey.
Oceanfront @ Buckingham Place brings everything else together too. The open-air pavilion restaurant shares the building with our international bar, a 33m infinity pool with poolside bar, an amphitheatre, games room and mezzanine lounge, and is the all-day hub of the hotel. Oceanfront’s sensational location, eclectic menus and laidback hospitality are now legendary, and well worth staying in for!
Regularly changing, well executed menus offer imaginative fusion, fresh fish and seafood and as one would expect, traditional fare – virtually everything is freshly shopped for, prepped and cooked – strictly no buffets here!
Expect a relaxed, informal ambience, with lazy classical mornings, old school jazz evenings, plus all things musical in between in the background – occasionally live acoustic. Book to dine poolside then afterwards perhaps, take in an old movie at our amphitheater under the stars?

Enjoying fabulous, elevated views to the Indian Ocean across the infinity swimming pool, Oceanfront @ Buckingham Place is the all-day hub of the hotel. Informal, spacious, vibrant and colourful, the restaurant stands ready to serve authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and innovative fusion alongside stand-up favorites, all from ‘rolling’ well executed menus and, with an ice cold beer, cocktail or your choice from the wine list.
Lazy breakfasts, laid-back brunches, lunches, cocktails and candlelit suppers are all freshly prepped to order.
Oceanfront brings everything together with spectacularly; a restaurant and bar, the main pool, an amphitheatre, small art studio, games room and a quiet mezzanine reading lounge. Our mouthwatering menus, the views and laidback hospitality are well worth staying in for – few bother to venture out, sometimes for several weeks at a time!
Expect a laid back ambience, with classical mornings, jazzy evenings plus all things musical in between – occasionally live acoustic. Dine poolside then afterwards perhaps, take in an old movie under the stars?

Menus have evolved over many painstaking years, thanks to guest feedback, creative chefs, dedicated kitchen crews and, by not allowing ourselves to believe we are good enough. Please allow time for freshly prepped meals and tell us about your preferences or dietary requirements.
Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine is available daily at every mealtime, and is served as Sri Lankans would serve it to each other.
BREAKFAST |
Breakfast is a long lazy affair for most, but with an adventure menu. There is no particular time you must arrive for it, so if you’re a late riser no worries! We will still serve you with a smile and unlimited tea or coffee.
BRUNCH | LUNCH
Our Brunch/Lunch menu offers small snacks to full size meals - Sri Lankan and international - from late morning until 4pm. From late afternoon, that evenings’ menu can be viewed and ordered from if you like getting your ducks in a row nice and early!
DINNER |
Whilst we certainly don’t place Oceanfront’s tried and tested ‘rolling’ menus on a pedestal, our local cuisine, innovative fusion and old fashioned favorites seem to please most diners, with around 99% of our house guests dining in for 99% of their meals. Short, daily changing a la carte menus are complimented by ‘specials’ and where possible, bespoke cooking.

BUY FRESH | COOK FRESH POLICY
The kitchen crew buy daily, if an ingredient is available and best bought fresh then it is – no vacuum packed ready-made meals here. We suggest early ordering and before you get hungry, as some meals might take a little longer to arrive than at your favourite restaurant back home, or you might choose to go off-menu.
Be ready to test your taste buds but be assured by our unusual ‘house’ rule - if you don’t like something we serve you just say, we will replace it without challenge or charge.
IN ROOM DINING |
Candlelit suppers on balconies or verandas are served at no extra charge, as are breakfasts, snacks, tea and coffee which is free and unlimited before and during breakfast. Most menu choices can be served to your accommodation, poolside, or in the garden subject to weather – no tray charges at this hotel.
IN ROOM TEA & COFFEE |
You may find this a little unusual but, it is for good reason! We avoid providing in-room brew facilities. Instead, we happily deliver fresh pots of tea and coffee and thus reduce temptation to ants and wildlife to share your accommodation. Please call from 07:00 for your pot of choice, or if you’re a punctual early riser simply request service the previous evening or on arrival.
Unlimited tea and coffee is served from 07:00 and throughout breakfast.
DIETARY REQUIRMENTS |
Vegetarians, vegans and travelers with religious or dietary requirements can generally be catered for well - please ask for more info’ pre-arrival.
B & B | FULL & HALF BOARD OPTIONS
Fixed price daily boarding options are available on request: full board @ US$55 | half-board @ US$39 | (resident 5-12 year olds 50% reduction for either option). Both options can be opted for at any time during your stay on a henceforth basis. Your choice will automatically include a full a la carte breakfast but exclude bar beverages. After choosing, your boarding option is then set for the remainder of your stay.
Identical menus are offered to all diners, regardless of boarding option.
BAR | LICENSING LAW
Our liquor license permits us to serve all types of alcohol 10:30 – 24:00 daily. However, as is normal throughout the island, on full-moon Poya days, other religious or notable national days, only unopened alcohol can be served and only then to guest accommodation. On these days, consumption of alcohol is not permitted at the restaurant, bar, swimming pools or gardens. Thank you for your cooperation.
NOMINAL CORKAGE CHARGE |
US$15 Corkage Charge per bottle of wine, champagne or spirits is automatically levied in the event of guests bringing their own alcohol to the hotel/restaurant.
CHRISTMAS 2024
On Christmas Day (25th Dec) and New Years’ Eve (31st Dec) our little corner of paradise is typically more sociable, eclectic and joyful than ever.
Whatever your faith (if you have one) we celebrate this day communally but in a light hearted informal way - minus the stress and obligatory hotel disco. Christmas with us is as happy if not happier than a big family get-together. Be set for a lazy, shameless, blow-out feast of a day! Christmas in the tropics is quite ridiculous, but why not celebrate the season of peace and goodwill?
Hints of a Christmas past begin with a light breakfast on your verandah then the day is yours to spend as you wish, however, we’d love you to join us for mince pies and a sherry before taking yourselves off somewhere. When we call you to your table at three o’clock sharp, regular menus are set aside for an extra-scrummy feast, one of a kind we promise!
US$125 per-person Christmas/peak season supplement (kids 5-12 @ 50%) includes everything we serve from breakfast onwards (25th). Additional alcohol beverages (and corkage) are charged at normal year-round tariffs.
NEW YEARS EVE | 2024
As you would expect, you’ll want for nothing. You will be well-fed from our grills and entertained by traditional musicians and dancers all the way up to midnight. Then it’s up to you - we’ll stay up very late if you do!

Please note: Christmas Day (25th Dec) / New Years’ Eve (31st Dec) per-person supplements are charged irrespective of your participation or level of consumption, and are charged to your bill automatically. Specific orders of Champagne, wine, beer or spirits are charged at year-round tariffs.
